The Al Awda community and health association in Gaza, a partner of Viva Salud, needs your support!
For the fourth time since 2008, Israel launched a new assault on the Gaza Strip in August. During a three-day siege, bombings and air strikes killed 49 Palestinians, including 17 children. The Al Awda association provided medical care to dozens of victims in very difficult conditions.
Israel closed the crossing points into Gaza, preventing fuel trucks from entering the Strip, causing a major power outage that left Al Awda's health facilities, seven health centres and two hospitals, with only a few hours of electricity per day. “Providing medical care to the injured in such conditions is extremely difficult. After four hours of electricity, we had to cope with a 12-hour blackout,” said an Al Awda employee. “Despite the challenges we faced, we were able to save the lives of 23 injured people,” said Al Awda's director general.
A fragile truce was declared on 7 August. Although the bombing has stopped, the humanitarian needs in Gaza are enormous. “Al Awda desperately needs fuel. We must replenish our strategic fuel stockpile, which was used up during the aggression,” said the Director-General.
