After nearly two years of illegal detention by the Israeli army, Dr. Ahmed Muhanna, director of the hospital of our partner organisation AWDA, has finally been released. Throughout this time, we had no news — nor did his family — of where he was or his state of health.

Since the beginning of the genocide, Dr. Muhanna has been a courageous voice, denouncing to major media outlets the war crimes committed against the Palestinian people. A physician of unparalleled devotion to his patients and the health of his people, he now stands once again in the corridors of Al-Awda Hospital, ready to resume his work: healing, resisting, and rebuilding.
For months, his fate remained uncertain: we didn't know where he was, how he was doing, or even if he was still alive. After his release in October 2025, Dr. Muhanna told us how difficult the detention had been: 30 kilos lighter, with broken ribs, after enduring violence and torture in Israeli prisons.
Regarding his arrest and detention conditions, his ability to practise medicine and provide care within the prison, and his reunion with his family and colleagues at AWDA, read our interview with Dr Ahmed Muhanna:
Officially, there has been recent talk of a ceasefire in Gaza. But on the ground, the reality is different. Israel has not respected the ceasefire for a single day and continues to bomb Gaza. Day after day, wounded people still arrive at Al-Awda Hospital in Nuseirat. We must carry on. Continue to bear witness. Continue to put pressure on our politicians so that Israel is finally held accountable. The blockade of Gaza and the occupation of the West Bank must also end. This is why we will continue to fight alongside our partners and with you.
