Mémorundum : Health and international solidarity - Elections 2024
A memorandum drafted and supported by Viva Salud, FOS, SolSoc, Solidaris, CM, WSM, Congodorpen and Memisa.
Health is a subject that concerns all citizens and, consequently, all Belgian political parties. However, our health does not stop at national borders, as the COVID-19 pandemic has once again painfully shown. If our state of health is linked to that of other people in the world, access to care and medicines - among other things - also depends largely on international dynamics. Dynamics which are not limited to health as such, but which involve all areas of the international community: from gender to economics, including trade relations and international financing.
Health cannot be separated from its social determinants and from the international structure that supports health inequalities. This is why the above-mentioned organisations, brought together in the Platform's Working Group on the Determinants of International Health Be-cause Health, have drawn up this memorandum on health and international solidarity. We cite a number of international areas that perpetuate health inequalities and put forward concrete policy solutions.
