They provide essential healthcare services to the population, act as a safeguard and steer public health policies towards greater social justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">#<strong><strong>NotATarget<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>However, we see all over the world that health workers and organisations are being targeted wherever democratic space is under threat. They are intimidated, arrested and sometimes even murdered. This repression prevents them from doing their job properly. Some stop working out of fear and leave the sector or organisation they work for. Others are unable to continue their work for legal reasons or simply because their lives have been taken from them. The financial resources of health organisations can also be undermined by smear campaigns and legal attacks. This makes it more difficult to provide essential care and bring about social change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong><strong>Their safety, our health<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This repression has a huge impact on access to healthcare. It affects not only organisations and healthcare workers, but also the health of the population itself. We can only be healthy when they are safe. Activists, health workers, health organisations and social movements defending the right to health should never be targeted.
