Tax certificate
Are you entitled to a tax certificate?
If the total amount of donations you have made during a calendar year is at least €40, you are entitled to a tax certificate. Your donation is then 45% deductible from personal income tax. Do you make occasional donations? If so, check the annual total if you wish to receive a tax certificate.
For example: if you pay €5 per month, the total for the year comes to €60. But in reality, you only pay €33 because the tax deduction is 45%.
Who can issue a certificate and how does it work?
Only NGOsrecognised, such as Viva Salud, are authorised to issue tax certificates to their donors. This is a «reward» for contributing to development aid. You will receive the certificate in the spring of the following year. It serves as proof of your right to a tax deduction on your tax return.
The total amount of your donations for the year is normally already filled in by the tax authorities on your tax return. Therefore, you do not need to attach the paper certificate to your return, but should keep it at home as proof.
Please note: donations only
In order to be eligible for a tax certificate, it is important to include the word «donation» in the communication section of your transfer. This makes it clear that it is not a payment for which we cannot issue a certificate (payment for goods and/or services, collections, etc.).
Fundraising activities that you have organised yourself and for which you pay the entire amount in one go do not entitle you to a tax certificate.
