Health: a fundamental right
Health is a concern we all share. It is also a fundamental right. Unfortunately, for most people, this fundamental right is under threat from poverty, inequality, exploitation and war. Those who speak out on this issue are coming under increasing pressure. Viva Salud campaigns for the right to healthcare and self-determined development. To this end, we support the development of strong social movements that defend the right to healthcare for Philippines, in Palestine, in the Democratic Republic of Congo and elsewhere.
Our partners regularly report to us on the blows dealt to the healthcare systems in their countries: privatisation, austerity measures, and increasing repression of healthcare workers and campaigners. These issues also resonate with current events in Belgium and across Europe. In the face of increasingly global challenges, the solution lies in international solidarity. Together with our partners, as well as other Belgian social organisations such as trade unions and other NGOs in the sector, we organise actions and campaigns.
Together, we are also involved in international networks such as the People’s Health Movement. In this way, We are rallying committed citizens, social movements and policy-makers to bring about policy changes that promote the right to healthcare worldwide.
