Emergency in Gaza
WHY DO WE NEED TO HELP?
In response to the latest developments in the Gaza Strip, Viva Salud is urgently asking to support our local partner AWDA.
In the light of the military escalation since Saturday 7 October, the Gazan people are facing severe health challenges on top of the structural destruction of the health sector in the Gaza Strip due to the unjust siege that has been lasting for 16 years.
The number of injured and dead continues to rise. The number of injured and dead continues to rise. AWDA runs several medical centres and hospitals. From the first moment of the escalation, AWDA declared a state of emergency. There is a shortage of medicines and medical equipment and all electricity was cut off in the Gaza Strip. There is a dire need for fuel for the electricity generators. We expect the situation to escalate further in the coming days and weeks.
We therefore call you to help immediate intervention to save lives and provide the necessary healthcare for everyone. You can support AWDA in its respons to the emergency situation by help providing with fuel, medicines, supplies and vital medical instruments and equipments it urgently needs.

Tragedy for Palestinians’ health
The impact on healthcare and the health of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip is dramatic. The huge increase in the number of wounded⸱e⸱s in recent days is increasing the pressure on hospitals and health centers.
There is a severe shortage of medicines, medical supplies and protective equipment for health personnel. Israel has total control over goods entering and leaving the Gaza Strip. Health centers are overloaded and their services compromised by power cuts, checkpoints, roadblocks and bombardments. On Saturday, Israel bombed two more hospitals, killing an ambulance driver and a nurse. According to the United Nations, the occupied Palestinian territory is one of the most dangerous places for health professionals.
The current bombardments have destroyed the power lines that constitute the Gaza Strip’s only source of electricity supply. Our partner AWDA has recently acquired solar panels, but these are currently too limited to cope with the current emergency situation. So they have to rely on electricity generators and need a lot of fuel to do so.
Viva Salud is therefore calling for immediate support to save lives and provide the necessary healthcare for all. You can support AWDA by making a donation here. These donations will be used to purchase urgently needed medicines, medical instruments and equipment.
